SCD News Logo
With SCD being on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, we discovered through user interviews that students and campus faculty were unaware of SCD’s offerings, what its mission was, what resources were available to them, and what human-centered design really was. SCD News was created to bridge these gaps, clear any misconceptions, and have a fun way to connect with those who are interested in SCD.
I was given the task to create the primary logo for SCD News. The goal for this logo was to capture the semi-satire and semi-seriousness of the show, while creating something that could be versatile in its application. The main sources of inspiration I was given was Saturday Night Live and MAD TV due to the playfulness of their graphics.
UX Speaker Promo
SCD has been holding a UX speaker series where different professionals in UX design come to SCD to speak about their experiences in UX design. I was given the task to create a flyer and a social media graphic to help promote this event. Visually, the goal was to maintain a professional look, adhering to University of Illinois brand guidelines as this event was in collaboration with the School of Art & Design.
Reading Day
Every semester, SCD hosts a Reading Day event to encourage students to relax, unwind, and enjoy the building before finals. With the tagline of “Cozy Up and Unwind With SCD,” I created a promotional flyer that embodied the tagline. Alongside the flyer, I converted my flyer design into a sticker that would be available during Reading Day.
Personal Reflections
Building Confidence
Throughout my internship at SCD, I’ve grown more confident in my abilities as a graphic designer. Working on a variety of projects, alongside having a supportive network, has helped me refine my design choices and trust the design decisions I make.
Embracing Learning
This internship has pushed me to step outside my comfort zone and embrace new skills, from learning Adobe After Effects to creating an illustrative flyer. I take each project as an opportunity to learn something new, growing my skillset as a designer.
